Why it is asked separately
A foreign registration number is what Korean law calls a 'unique identifying number', and protects specially (PIPA Article 24). Consent bundled together with other items is not valid for it. So it is asked on its own.
What, why, and for how long
| Item | Purpose | Period |
|---|---|---|
| Foreign registration number | Required to identify the taxpayer when filing the amended return with the National Tax Service | 1 year after the refund process ends |
This number is stored encrypted and hidden on staff screens. Any time the full number is opened, a record is kept that cannot be altered or deleted.
We do not ask for a resident registration number
A Korean resident registration number can only be processed where a statute allows it, and never on consent alone (Article 24-2). No screen in this service asks for one.
Your right to refuse
You may refuse. But without this number nothing can be filed with the National Tax Service, so if you refuse we cannot provide the Service.
Kung may pagkakaiba sa kahulugan, ang bersyong Koreano ang masusunod.
